Ingredients
  

  • 5 medium potatoes about 700g
  • 400 g ground beef about 14 oz
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 200 g tomato sauce about 3/4 cup
  • 200 ml milk about 3/4 cup
  • 200 g grated cheese Gruyère or mozzarella work well
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • to taste spices

Method
 

  1. Peeled and boiled the potatoes until fork-tender (about 15-20 minutes), then drain and mash with a splash of milk, salt, and pepper.
  2. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat, add onion and garlic, sauté until translucent, then add ground beef and cook until browned.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce and let it simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C), then spread a layer of mashed potatoes in a baking dish, followed by beef mixture, and repeat, finishing with mashed potatoes on top.
  5. Sprinkle grated cheese over the top layer of potatoes.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes until cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden.
