Method
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef, onion, and garlic until browned, about 7-8 minutes, then drain excess fat.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, pizza sauce, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper, and simmer for 5-10 minutes.
- Roll out pizza dough and fit it into a greased 9-inch pie dish, leaving overhang around edges.
- Pour the beef mixture into the dough-lined pie dish and spread evenly. Top with mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan cheeses. Optionally, add pepperoni on top.
- Fold excess dough over the edges of the filling and leave the center exposed. Bake for 20-25 minutes until dough is golden brown and cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from oven, let cool slightly, and garnish with fresh basil before serving.

Notes
For a healthier twist, consider using ground turkey, a veggie mix, or a low-carb crust. You can prep the pie ahead of time and refrigerate before baking; just add a few extra minutes to cooking time. The pie can be made gluten-free with the appropriate pizza dough. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven for best results. Feel free to customize toppings according to your preferences!
