Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup condensed milk (120ml)
  • 1 tbsp margarine or butter
  • 1 cup water (240ml)
  • 1 tbsp dry organic yeast
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (measured with a 240ml measuring cup)
  • a pinch salt (optional)
  • candied fruits for filling (optional)
  • grated coconut for filling (optional)
  • guava paste for filling (optional)
  • 120 ml condensed milk for topping
  • grated coconut for sprinkling

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk or electric mixer
  • Greased baking pan
  • Oven

Method

  1. Beat the eggs together with the condensed milk until well combined.
  2. Add melted margarine or butter, warm water, and dry yeast, mixing until smooth and creamy.
  3. Gradually add all-purpose flour, starting with one cup, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Select your favorite filling and place it between layers of dough, preventing interference with the dough's texture.
  5. Place the dough in a greased pan and let it rise in a warm place for approximately 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 200ºC. Bake the bread for around 35 minutes, or until golden on top.
  7. Drizzle the top with condensed milk and sprinkle it with grated coconut or the filling used while still warm.
  8. Let the bread cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

Make sure your yeast is active and not expired for the best results. If the dough is too sticky, add more flour; if too dry, add a little more water. Brushing with egg yolk before baking gives a shiny, golden crust. Store the bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months for longer storage. One delicious way to enjoy this bread is toasted with butter or jam.
