- In a large mixing bowl, combine heavy cream, whole milk, and granulated sugar.
- Add pure vanilla extract and a pinch of salt to the mixture.
- Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved, whisking for about two minutes if needed.
- Pour the mixture into the frozen bowl of your ice cream maker and churn according to the machine’s instructions (20-30 minutes).
- In the last 5 minutes of churning, add any desired mix-ins (chocolate chips, fruit, nuts, etc.).
- Once churned, if you prefer a firmer texture, transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for 1-2 hours.
- Before serving, let the ice cream sit at room temperature for 5-10 minutes to soften slightly.

Notes
Use pure vanilla extract for the best flavor—imitation vanilla doesn't compare. The pinch of salt is crucial for enhancing the sweetness. Store in an airtight container and consume within a week for the best texture. Experiment with add-ins after churning for personalized flavors, but avoid adding large amounts of liquid-based ingredients during churning. If you don't have an ice cream maker, you can use the still-freeze method, but it requires more effort.
