Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 4 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Equipment

  • 8-inch round cake pans
  • Mixing bowls
  • Spatula
  • Oven mitts
  • Kitchen scale (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, and vanilla. Beat in the eggs one at a time until well combined.
  3. Add the cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Mix until just combined. The batter should be thick and glossy.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the layers cool completely.
  5. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder.
  6. Mix in the heavy cream and vanilla until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.
  7. Place one brownie layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous layer of frosting on top.
  8. Place the second brownie layer over it and frost the top and sides. Smooth the frosting with a spatula.
  9. Add garnishes like chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or fresh berries.
  10. Chill the cake for 30 minutes to set the frosting. Slice and enjoy!

Notes

For an extra-rich flavor, try using dark chocolate cocoa powder in the frosting. It adds a deeper, more intense chocolate taste.
