  • 4 large apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Equipment

  • 8x8-inch baking dish
  • Mixing bowls
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • Fork or whisk

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and slice the apples into thin, even pieces and toss with cinnamon and nutmeg in a bowl.
  3. In another bowl, mix rolled oats, brown sugar, flour, melted butter, and a pinch of salt until crumbly. Optionally add walnuts.
  4. Transfer the apple slices to an 8x8-inch baking dish and spread the oat crumble over the apples.
  5. Bake for about 35-40 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling. Cover with foil for the first 20 minutes if needed.
  6. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

You can substitute the apples with pears or peaches for a different flavor. For a healthier option, replace brown sugar with coconut sugar or honey. To make it dairy-free, use melted coconut oil instead of butter. Consider adding a splash of lemon juice to prevent apple browning and enhance flavor.
