Ingredients
  

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 pound sausage (cooked and crumbled)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • q.s. salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for greasing the pan

Method
 

  1. In a bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour, and stir until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.
  5. Cover the dough and let it rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
  6. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  7. Grease a 9-inch deep dish pan with olive oil.
  8. Roll out the dough and press it into the prepared pan, covering the bottom and sides.
  9. Layer the cooked sausage, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese.
  10. Pour the crushed tomatoes over the cheese, then sprinkle with oregano, garlic powder, red pepper flakes if using, salt, and pepper.
  11. Bake for 30-40 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
  12. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve hot.
