Ingredients

  • 400 g beef strips
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • to taste salt and pepper

Equipment

  • Wok or large skillet
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • Bowl for marinating
  • Spatula or wooden spoon

Method

  1. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, and grated ginger. Add the beef strips and let them marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  2. While the beef is marinating, slice the bell pepper and onion.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until browned and almost cooked through. Remove the beef from the pan and set it aside.
  4. In the same pan, add the sliced bell pepper and onion. Stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until they start to soften but still retain their crunch.
  5. Return the beef to the pan with the vegetables. Add the water and cornstarch mixture, stirring well to combine. Let it simmer for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats everything beautifully.

Notes

Use a high-heat oil like vegetable or peanut oil to prevent smoking. Toast some sesame seeds and sprinkle them over the finished stir-fry for an extra layer of flavor. Adjust the sweetness and saltiness to your taste by adding more honey or soy sauce. This dish can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat with a little water to keep it moist.
