- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
- Mix the ingredients gently until evenly combined.
- Shape the mixture into small patties about 2-3 inches across and 1/2-inch thick, making a dimple in the center of each.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and sear the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side.
- Remove patties and tent with foil to keep warm.
- In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat and sauté sliced mushrooms until soft.
- Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir for one minute.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth while avoiding lumps and bring to a simmer until thickened.
- Taste and adjust seasoning, then return the patties to the skillet and simmer in the gravy for 5-7 minutes.

Notes
For a different twist, you can use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef. Leftovers store well in the fridge for 3-4 days, and the flavors often improve. They can also be frozen up to 3 months. For presentation, serve the mini burger steaks over mashed potatoes or with a garnish of fresh parsley. Enjoy them as a fun appetizer at parties by serving them skewered with toothpicks.
