Ingredients

  • 400 g flour
  • 150 g sugar
  • 1 sachet vanilla sugar
  • 450 g Nutella
  • 150 g cold butter cut into small pieces
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • a pinch salt

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowls
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons
  • Round Baking Pan (24-25 cm)
  • Parchment Paper
  • Oven

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, vanilla sugar, eggs, and cold butter. Mix until the texture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
  2. Line a round baking pan (about 24-25 cm in diameter) with parchment paper. Press half of the crumble mixture into the bottom and slightly up the sides of the pan.
  3. Spoon the Nutella onto the crumble base and spread it gently with the back of a spoon.
  4. Sprinkle the rest of the crumble mixture evenly over the Nutella layer and gently pat it down.
  5. Chill the assembled cake in the fridge for 3 hours.
  6. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake the cake for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  7. Allow the cake to cool completely before slicing and serve as-is or with a dollop of whipped cream.

Notes

Use cold butter for the crumble to achieve the right texture. Don’t skip the chilling step, as it prevents the layers from shifting during baking. Invest in high-quality ingredients, especially Nutella, since it's the star of the show. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or wrap and freeze for longer storage. Reheat slices in the microwave for a gooey treat.
