Ingredients

  • 500 g beef steak, sliced thin
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 0.25 cup honey

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Small saucepan
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Tongs or spatula

Method

  1. In a large bowl, mix the orange juice, soy sauce, and garlic. Add the sliced beef and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. After marinating, remove the beef from the liquid and pat it dry. Dredge each slice in the cornstarch, making sure they are evenly coated.
  3. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef slices in a single layer and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  4. In a small saucepan, combine the orange juice, honey, soy sauce, and cornstarch. Stir until the mixture thickens and becomes glossy.
  5. Add the fried beef to the sauce and toss until the beef is well-coated. Serve immediately with steamed rice and a side of stir-fried vegetables.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider marinating the beef overnight. You can substitute cornstarch with flour, though the texture will differ slightly. The sticky orange sauce can be adjusted; add more orange juice if too sweet or more honey if too tangy. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or frozen for up to 2 months. Reheat by adding a little water to maintain moisture. For a healthier version, try baking the beef instead of frying.
